Continue reading →Yet another successful Rescue Flight from Larnaka (Cyprus) to Frankfurt (Germany). Some Coshit-19 Restrictions in Germany (coming from Cyprus) have been lifted, so traveling was much easier than in previous weeks. Again, many people were involved in this from the start whoever picked the Stray Cats up from the Street, fostered them in their Homes in Cyprus, took them to the Vet, paid their Bills, got up at 1 am in the morning to drive to the Airport and those who offered them a new Home in Germany. Teamwork! NEXT STOP:ZÜRICH :) Some of the Lucky Ones :)

Continue reading →10 Cyprus Rescue Cats (Lexi, Crossy, Zorro, Richi, Bamboo, Bolt, Viviane, Prince, Cindy and last but not least BooBoo ) had a chance of a better life in Germany and Italy. Flight to Munich was arranged with Aegean as we can take 5 Pets per Person with that Airline. (Other Airlines take less Pets per Person) Some of the Helpers and Adopters who made this possible: (Sorry, I do not know all of them/you) Tzi Tzi Elzbieta Olejniczak Savva Barbara Casselini Natalia Losi Sabine Brockerhoff Juliett Posselt John and Carmen Birdsall Tina Reinke Cetty Thanks also to Silke at fellnasentaxi.de for taking some Cats further. (Fellnasentaxi.de is a Network of private Individuals who can provide suitable Pet Transport from any Airport in Germany to a final Destination.) and many more you helped before and after. My Wife, Yolande accompanied me on this Flight 10 Cyprus Rescue Cats on flightparent ! On a personal note and in case somebody else needs to fly to Munich and is looking for good affordable Accommodation: We stayed in FREISING at the Hotel Mercure, which was a better choice than going into Munich.Trains from Munich Airport to Munich HBF are € 11.20 one way, so for 2 People there and back to Airport it’s nearly € 50.00. Whereas going to FREISING just take the Bus (Nr 365) from the Airport at € 3.40. The Hotel was excellent and Staff very accommodating and friendly. Right behind the Hotel is the Old Town (Altstadt-City Center)

Continue reading →Lockdown restrictions in Germany will be extended until March 7, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country’s 16 state governors agreed on Wednesday, in an attempt to stop Covid-19 variants undermining falling infection rates. Cyprus has extended until March the current national lock-down imposed following a spike in COVID-19 cases after allowing some easing of restrictions in the last week. A decision was taken to extend the national lockdown until at least the end of February by the cabinet on Wednesday, following advice from the ministerial committee managing the pandemic, the Health Ministry said. For the next three weeks, the 9 pm-5 am curfew remains with people still limited to leaving their homes twice a day. AND “THEY”WILL EXTEND IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AS IT SUITS THEM AND TO BREAK US ALL.(AND NOT TO GET RID OF THE FLU/VIRUS)
Continue reading →Rescue Flight to Frankfurt (20.February 2021) On February 20th, 10 Cats were supposed to fly out to new forever homes in Germany. #aegeanair first cancelled the Flight and moved it to the 22nd of Feb. which left us with the Headache of finding another One Way Return Flight on the 23rd of Feb. Not even half way through that Issue, #aegeanair cancelled the 22nd of Feb as well, leaving us with NO FLIGHT. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR MARCH. For other Rescuers or Overnight Stayers I can recommend Hotel Münchner Hof. At only about € 50.00 to €60.00 per Night WITH Breakfast for 2 Guests (depending on your dates of course) it is very good Value for Money and best location for me. This privately run 3-star hotel near Frankfurt’s Train Station offers free internet access throughout. The hotel’s Ari Rang Restaurant serves Asian specialties. The rooms at the Hotel Münchner Hof feature a mini-bar, free Wi-Fi, and pay TV channels. The Münchner Hof’s breakfast buffet is served in the dining room, where there is also an internet terminal which can be used by guests for free. Frankfurt’s Train Station is just 150 m away from the Münchner Hof. The famous Zeil shopping street, Frankfurt’s financial district and the historic city center are all just a short walk away.

Continue reading →Cats have an extra scent organ called the vomeronasal gland in the roof of their mouth. This special pathway allows scents that are collected in the nose and mouth to be carried to the brain. Nepetalactone is the oil that’s found within the catnip plant’s leaves that can cause behavioral changes in cats. F or a cat to be exposed to this substance, they have to smell the catnip. Catnip mimics feline sex hormones, so cats enjoying this substance will often display behaviors similar to a female cat in heat (although both male and female cats can experience the effects). These behaviors can include overt signs of affection, relaxation, and happiness. Other cats will display active behaviors, such as playfulness or sometimes even aggression. For cats that have a positive experience with catnip, it can help reduce anxiety and even relieve pain. Some veterinarians have recommended using catnip to help with separation anxiety if your cat will be home alone for an extended period of time. Does Catnip Work on All Cats? Not all cats will respond to the active compound in catnip. Veterinary studies suggest that about 60% of cats will have a behavioral reaction to catnip. There is also evidence that a cat’s response to catnip is a dominant trait that’s based on genetics. How Long Does Catnip Last? Catnip effects will vary in length, depending on the cat. Usually, the behaviors associated with smelling catnip will last for around 10 minutes and then wear off gradually. It could then take 30 minutes without smelling catnip for the cat to become susceptible to the effects again. Catnip does lose its potency over time, so it is recommended to keep it in an airtight container for maximum freshness. Can Kittens Have Catnip? Catnip is not harmful for kittens, but most cats won’t react to catnip until they are 6 months to 1 year of age. Some cats can be exceptions to this rule, as they will slowly increase their sensitivity over the years. Can Cats Eat Catnip? Is It Safe? Cats can ingest catnip, and it may even be helpful for their digestive tract. The catnip plant has actually been used in people for its antidiarrheal properties. With this said, it is important to prevent your cat from ingesting large amounts of catnip, as this can cause digestive upset. Can Cats Overdose on Catnip? Too much catnip can cause health problems in cats, such as vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, or having trouble walking. Use just a little at a time, and you can always discuss the correct amount for your cat with your veterinarian. Fresh catnip is more potent than … Continue reading →

DEUTSCH / GERMAN VERSION WEITER UNTEN / BELOWFirst UP: I know there are A LOT of Shelters, Individuals and Animal Lovers asking for financial Help. This is just another one. There are ALSO a LOT of Scams going around, so be careful WHERE you donate to.Not everybody can do everything!I live in Protaras (Cyprus) and can feed some, but not all Street Cats here. The Situation is getting bad at the end of each Summer Season (roughly End of October). No or hardly any Tourists. Not many Flights are coming to Cyprus in the Winter Period.Streets are empty, Cats are starving. The Weather (so far) is not too bad yet but soon it will get worse, with January/February being the worst months with Rain , Cold, and sometimes even a little bit snow or hail.Luckily I am still in a position to buy quite a bit Cat-food myself but sooner or later it will get tight. There are quite a few other “Cat Feeders” in this Protaras Area, and all of them will struggle with getting enough Food for their Areas of Feeding.I am feeding around the Green Bay, Lombardi, Mesogios, Coralli, Figtree Bay and Capo Bay Areas. Some are overlapping with other Feeders. I also have roughly 12 Cats at my home (numbers vary, as many come to us when all Restaurants / Hotels are closed in the Winter Period.20kg Bags of Cat Food vary in Price from around € 30.00 upwards. You can help feeding the Stray Cats of Protaras (at least in the Area I cover) by donating a little bit.
