Continue reading →Cats have an extra scent organ called the vomeronasal gland in the roof of their mouth. This special pathway allows scents that are collected in the nose and mouth to be carried to the brain. Nepetalactone is the oil that’s found within the catnip plant’s leaves that can cause behavioral changes in cats. F or a cat to be exposed to this substance, they have to smell the catnip. Catnip mimics feline sex hormones, so cats enjoying this substance will often display behaviors similar to a female cat in heat (although both male and female cats can experience the effects). These behaviors can include overt signs of affection, relaxation, and happiness. Other cats will display active behaviors, such as playfulness or sometimes even aggression. For cats that have a positive experience with catnip, it can help reduce anxiety and even relieve pain. Some veterinarians have recommended using catnip to help with separation anxiety if your cat will be home alone for an extended period of time. Does Catnip Work on All Cats? Not all cats will respond to the active compound in catnip. Veterinary studies suggest that about 60% of cats will have a behavioral reaction to catnip. There is also evidence that a cat’s response to catnip is a dominant trait that’s based on genetics. How Long Does Catnip Last? Catnip effects will vary in length, depending on the cat. Usually, the behaviors associated with smelling catnip will last for around 10 minutes and then wear off gradually. It could then take 30 minutes without smelling catnip for the cat to become susceptible to the effects again. Catnip does lose its potency over time, so it is recommended to keep it in an airtight container for maximum freshness. Can Kittens Have Catnip? Catnip is not harmful for kittens, but most cats won’t react to catnip until they are 6 months to 1 year of age. Some cats can be exceptions to this rule, as they will slowly increase their sensitivity over the years. Can Cats Eat Catnip? Is It Safe? Cats can ingest catnip, and it may even be helpful for their digestive tract. The catnip plant has actually been used in people for its antidiarrheal properties. With this said, it is important to prevent your cat from ingesting large amounts of catnip, as this can cause digestive upset. Can Cats Overdose on Catnip? Too much catnip can cause health problems in cats, such as vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, or having trouble walking. Use just a little at a time, and you can always discuss the correct amount for your cat with your veterinarian. Fresh catnip is more potent than … Continue reading →

DEUTSCH / GERMAN VERSION WEITER UNTEN / BELOWFirst UP: I know there are A LOT of Shelters, Individuals and Animal Lovers asking for financial Help. This is just another one. There are ALSO a LOT of Scams going around, so be careful WHERE you donate to.Not everybody can do everything!I live in Protaras (Cyprus) and can feed some, but not all Street Cats here. The Situation is getting bad at the end of each Summer Season (roughly End of October). No or hardly any Tourists. Not many Flights are coming to Cyprus in the Winter Period.Streets are empty, Cats are starving. The Weather (so far) is not too bad yet but soon it will get worse, with January/February being the worst months with Rain , Cold, and sometimes even a little bit snow or hail.Luckily I am still in a position to buy quite a bit Cat-food myself but sooner or later it will get tight. There are quite a few other “Cat Feeders” in this Protaras Area, and all of them will struggle with getting enough Food for their Areas of Feeding.I am feeding around the Green Bay, Lombardi, Mesogios, Coralli, Figtree Bay and Capo Bay Areas. Some are overlapping with other Feeders. I also have roughly 12 Cats at my home (numbers vary, as many come to us when all Restaurants / Hotels are closed in the Winter Period.20kg Bags of Cat Food vary in Price from around € 30.00 upwards. You can help feeding the Stray Cats of Protaras (at least in the Area I cover) by donating a little bit. Every cent helps to buy Cat Food.Or you can donate directly to one of the Suppliers like PetParade Paralimni and let them know for whom the Donation is (flightparent). They will then deliver free of Charge to me Some special Winter Food Deals for Streecats are listed here. If-by chance- I should receive more Food that I need, I will just pass it on to some other Feeders in this Area. For yet another year, the biggest support act for the strays and the Animal Welfare Organizations, is here and counts: 1. 600+ adoptions of stray animals 2. 2.5 tons of food provided by sponsors 3. €13,000 donated by METRO This year the conditions dictate that we keep our distances so that we all stay healthy. So, instead of hosting the animals at METRO supermarkets, we will visit the animals. For a whole week, October 10 – 17, you can visit the Animal Welfare Organizations and support them by adopting your new fluffy friend. For each adopted animal during the METRO ANIMAL ADOPTION WEEK, METRO will offer €20 in support of Animal Welfare Organizations. Continue reading →WoW, June/July have been busy months for me as Flightescort. Some people expected (or are still expecting) a second Wave of C, and wanted to get as many Dogs and Cats out of Cyprus as possible. Additionally some of my Flights pre C had been cancelled but still needed to be done. Larnaka Airport partially re opened again on June 9th. Our first flight was already on June 14, but because Aegean was not yet fully operational we had to use Lufthansa. 2 seperate Flights in June with Lufthansa to Frankfurt, then 5th of July to Berlin, 10th of July to Düsseldorf, 14th of July back to Frankfurt, 22nd of July Düsseldorf again and finally 25th to Hamburg. August won’t be so crazy as a lot of Adopters are on Holiday and also Ticket Prices are steep. Clocked up a lot of Air Miles but because of C could not make full use of them. Fast Lane (Priority Boarding) has currently been disabled, and the normally quite nice Food in the Business Lounges has been replaced with ‘pandemic food’. (speak individually wrapped Sandwiches) They must be saving a ton of Money in their Catering Dept.:) First Destination in August will be Stuttgart, then it’s Düsseldorf again and later on back to Brussels to help some Dogs get to the UK, in Co-operation with 101 Pet Express

Both medications are effective at stopping flea growth and development, but there are a few key differences that should be addressed: Frontline Plus will kill flea growth and inhibit further development within 24 hours of application, and continue working for one month (post application). Frontline Plus will also protects against ticks and lice. Advantage II begins working within 12 hours of application, and will also continue to kill fleas/eggs for one month post application. Advantage II does not kill ticks or lice. These days, cat owners have more tools than ever to control parasites. Makers of such parasite control products have improved their formulations to be more effective at keeping your cat pest free. However, just because the medication has gotten more effective does not mean that pet parents don’t need to compare flea treatments for cats. There are so many to choose from, like Advantage Multi for cats or Revolution for cats, it is important to know what they all do. Two popular examples are Advantage for Cats and Frontline for Cats, but what exactly is the difference between them? Which medication comes out on top in Frontline vs Advantage? Below, we outline the particular benefits of these improved products—Advantage II for cats and Frontline Plus for Cats—so you can make an informed decision about which will be best for your cat. Advantage II for Cats BayerDVM replaced Advantage for Cats with Advantage II, now including an insect growth regulator (IGR) in the mix. This IGR inhibits the growth of flea eggs, thus interrupting the flea life cycle, stopping fleas before they even start growing. One great asset of Advantage II is that not only will it start killing adult and larvae fleas within 12 hours of application, one application will keep fleas at bay for a full month. Any re-infestation of adult fleas after the first strike will be killed within 2 additional hours. Other benefits of Advantage II for Cats is that the formulation is waterproof—so no need for reapplication after baths—and the product kills fleas on contact so the pests don’t have to bite your cat to get killed. Advantage II should only be used on cats and kittens who are 7 weeks of age or older. Frontline Plus for Cats Like Advantage II, Frontline Plus for Cats contains an agent that inhibits flea growth and development. This product replaces Frontline for Cats with a more effective parasite control. Frontline Plus starts killing fleas within 24 hours of application and then goes on keeping fleas away for one month by stopping the next generation of fleas … Continue reading →
